The J.A.W.S society

JAWS stands for the Journeying and Writing Society. The ruling body of JAWS is a dictatorship, run by the friendly dictator, Jordan Wagner. We value control highly in this society. In the year 2010, we broke away from the United States and journeyed into the Pacific ocean, whereupon we found an island to start anew. Our society breaks away from the hardships of regular technology, including cyber bullying, over-dependence on cell phones and Iphones, and unhealthy lifestyles due to too much time spent inside on game systems. We monitor everyone's lifestyles on the island to make sure they are healthy and happy with their technology uses. Kathryn Palmer, the head of history division, is in charge of watching the history of all activity on our internet servers and making sure there are no mishappenings. Tara Schnepp, our athletic director, sets the regular amount of time for kids and teens to get outside and play every day. Katy Williamson, the head of entertainment, makes sure all videos, games and anything else related to entertainment is clean. There has never been a suicide or murder in the JAWS society.

Final Presentation and Advertisements

The Journeying and Writing Society

Government and Security

When it comes to security, both in the real-life and digital sense, there is no society that even comes close to J.A.W.S. As the dictator of the island, I personally oversee the military and digital security branches that we have.

In terms of digital security and digital law, our island is unsurpassed. We have the largest firewall on earth, and no virus or hacker has ever been able to penetrate it. We have filters on our Internet servers so that certain websites are restricted on our island for the protection of the people. We have never had to punish anyone yet for breaking our digital law, which requires people to view only the permitted websites in our society. By doing this, we have allowed everyone to feel safer in the world of digital citizenship.

In other countries, such as the United States, you could oftensee an advertisement for the military that looks like this:

On the J.A.W.S Island, you will never see a digital document like this. The reason is because our military does not try to recruit people; we let the people come to our military. That is why we have the world’s strongest military. We only have 7000 actual soldiers, but because of our superior technology, we have computerized stealth fighters, submarines and tanks that do not require human operation.

To prove just how safe it is to be in our society, one needs only to look at our present situation. We are currently at war with France, and yet the people of our island carry on their daily activities without a hint of worry. That is because they know how safe they are on the J.A.W.S island. Located in the Pacific Ocean, we are in a secure, hard-to-reach spot. Our military has the power to crush anyone that opposes us, but we never strike first. From walking along our beaches to playing computer games, our citizens sleep safely at night knowing they are protected.

Digital Etiquette

As a society that seeks to improve the social and mental consequences of continuous technology use, a central focus for J.A.W.S. is maintaining social/digital etiquette within the community. J.A.W.S. members are required to step away from any and every technology after it has been used for three hours straight, encouraging every citizen to lead a more balanced lifestyle. A 2010 poll conducted by the World Wide Happiness Census shows that J.A.W.S. citizens are the happiest, most well-rounded people in the world. It also shows that these findings are directly related to citizens’ ability to utilize new technologies, as well as their ability to refrain from them. This, in our eyes, is the ultimate digital etiquette. Citizens are reminded of the importance of digital etiquette when they see the slogan plastered to every park bench, “Use only what you need”:

J.A.W.S. members are not only encouraged to spend time away from technology, but are also urged to do something productive (either for the body or the soul) with this time. One option could be going for a jog, while others may test their fear on the world’s fastest roller coaster, the Jaws Jet:

Digital etiquette is so vital in our society that each citizen receives a mini-reward when they show an effort to maintain a balanced lifestyle. Each time anyone restrains from technology after the three-hour limit, they get a free candy bar:

Here at J.A.W.S, we understand how difficult it can be to have such adamant self-control when it comes to technologies. But at the end of the day, our citizens realize the countless benefits. Other societies exercise no limits with digital devices, which cause them to waste away, become lost in their technologies, and develop poor social skills. J.A.W.S. citizens are able to appreciate both ends of the spectrum, from using the new telepathic computer monitors, to gazing at our beautiful island sunset:

Below is a link (highlight to access) to a website that further teaches children ages 10-16 about digital etiquette:

Health and Lifestyle

The utopian community of J.A.W.S. places special emphasis on maintaining good health and a wholesome lifestyle. Too often do the disturbing and mindless images of the modern digital society corrupt people's minds and prevent them from enjoying an active life outdoors, free from the pollution floating around on the web.

Disturbing and annoying images such as the one above will not fill your mind with uselessness, and you will be free to think!

AT J.A.W.S. you will not even be tempted with wasteful images and games because we have our own, autonomous, internet that has censored all undesirable images.

(insert Image one)

At J.A.W.S. two hours of exercise is a requirement, with one hour of physical and one of mental exercise. Whether this time is spent hiking up our picturesque ocean front mountains, riding bikes through the neighborhood, going for a walk with a friend, or even engaging yourself in an enthralling game of cards, we want to see our citizens stay active and enjoy life.

One major benefit of the mandatory exercise program is the healthy BMI of each and everyone of our citizens. There are very few vanity issues here, and the greedy diet industry of America has no place on our Island. In addition to exercise, we grow all of our own produce on the island, so there are no harmful pesticides, and the food is always enjoyable, healthy and nourishing, not fattening and greasy like the ones in gluttonous countries such as America.

Our revised Digital Community at J.A.W.S. also focuses on eliminating negative advertisements such as this:

(insert image four)

Incidentally, impressionable children will not be lured into doing unhealthy activities such as doing drugs and smoking.

Advertisements like the following are strictly prohibited, so children do not get sucked into the evils of substance abuse.

The following links provide access to helpful videos and websites giving more information about the healthy lifestyle promoted in our community.

So why should YOU join the J.A.W.S. community? Well that depends on who you are. Are you a …

Parent?
J.A.W.S. boasts one of the cleanest societies in all the world. When we say clean, we mean both environmentally as well as digitally. You will never see piece of litter on one of our pristine beaches, nor a pornographic or otherwise inappropriate video on a computer in our midst. You can allow your children to surf the web and remain worry free. Additionally, our society proudly claims one of the world’s lowest crime rates. In the time since our society has existed, we have experienced miniscule numbers of not only traditional theft and other crimes, but of web-based crimes like identity theft and hacking. Therefore, not only will you and your family be safe physically but digitally as well.

Health Enthusiast?
The J.A.W.S. cafeterias serve only healthy, locally grown and produced foods. We serve 3 well-rounded meals a day, along with snacks to keep our citizens going strong throughout the day. There is also no less than at least one fully equipped and high-tech gymnasium for every square mile of our community. Every citizen is required to spend at least two hours in physical activity, whether in one of the gymnasiums or engaging in some outdoor activity in one of our many parks or beaches. In implementing this requirement and limiting technological access, we can also happily proclaim a society without a single obese citizen.

Technology Geek or Avid Learner?
While J.A.W.S. does limit the use of technology so as to prevent an unhealthy lifestyle, as well as impolite behavioral habits, we promote its use in moderation. Technology is undoubtedly an amazing tool and we want our citizens to get the most out of it, without it getting the most out of them. We provide extensive lessons in technology use, from computers to computer programs to how to best utilize the internet to video recorders and other devices. We don’t only provide classes in technology however, but a huge range of subjects, from the arts to more academic courses.

So, whether you’re a concerned parent, a health nut, a nerd or any combination of the three, you are sure to have an amazing experience in the Journeying and Writing Society.

Letter to a School Friend

A beautiful view of the fields in our society:

In our society, if you play the lottery you automatically win, even this young child:

These are the cigarettes in our society; they contain no tobacco or nicotine but give you the same light-headed feeling. They also attract beautiful women as seen here:
Our society does not waste anything, including our water:
This is the fastest and longest roller coaster in the world, which just so happens to be in our society:
The most popular candy in our society is Snirkles; we bet you can't eat just one!

Dear Sam,

I’m sorry it has been so long since you have heard from me. For the past several years me and a group of friends have been developing a new society known as J.A.W.S. (The Journeying and Writing

Society) that seeks to improve the misfortunes of other current digital societies. It is our wish that this new and improved society will inhabit only the happiest of citizens as a result of more pleasurable living and a more balanced lifestyle.

First and foremost, J.A.W.S.’ main purpose in developing a new society was to create a better digital world for its occupants. We not only encourage but also require that all citizens are digitally literate in every area of technologies, whether it is a computer, a camera, or an automobile. You would surely enjoy this aspect of J.A.W.S., being that you are advanced in every new technology. Having said that, however, over the years we have created a myriad of new devices that you could probably never even imagine! From the newest camera that can take its own pictures to the new telepathic monitors in school busses, we are constantly coming up with the new and exciting inventions to help further develop this digital society.

With all these new technologies and devices, it is absolutely crucial that our society monitors the access of these inventions in order to create and maintain a more balanced lifestyle. Current digital societies have what we like to call the “silent killer of socialization” in their inevitable attachment to technologies. They go about their days subconsciously in an utter daze because they are constantly distracted by digital devices, which ultimately leaves all of them with minimal social skills and an absolutely pitiful attention span. Our society encourages all members to take a step away from technology (regardless of circumstances) after it has been in use for 3 straight hours. The goal is to keep our citizens from depending heavily on their technologies and for them to take a step away for either physical or mental exercise and/or leisure. The results of this restriction have been outstanding- almost every citizen has improved their grades, their physical health, and their overall happiness in life.

Another outstanding characteristic of our society is the citizens’ relationships with one another. Members are able to converse either jokingly or in serious discussions when they are enjoying their “active” time away from technology. The citizens of J.A.W.S. absolutely have the best of both worlds- they are able to use new state-of-the-art, custom-made technologies never even heard of in other societies while still embracing the necessity for an active lifestyle. In a recent study done by Life & Home Magazine, our society was ranked #1 out of every society in the world for best overall physical health and mental stability. I am convinced that this is a result of our 2-hour limit, and I certainly encourage every other society to try the same thing. Outside societies may see it as ironic or almost hypocritical to encourage the use of new technologies while still urging the importance of refraining from technology for a period of time.

I sincerely hope that you take what I have said here to heart. I miss you terribly and would love for you to become a member of J.A.W.S. sometime in the near future. I promise you will not regret joining this lifestyle because it is the ultimate win/win situation.

Love Always,

Tara Schnepp

It is currently 11:32, November 24th. My troops are rallying around the Island to their battle positions. We have issued a worldwide statement that we will not standby idly while our head of military has been assassinated. France issued a statement following ours, simply saying, "Ha ha, we laugh at the feeble efforts of the J.A.W.S society."

They won't be laughing for long. We have a fleet of 200 fighter jets on standby right now. Our Black Ops team has already been sent to Paris to extract and eliminate the Prime Minister and his cabinet and security. We will not involve innocent lives in this fight. Our fighter jets will not be deployed until we have a confirmation of the french military moving in our position.

Letter to an FSU Student

Dear Joe Everyman,

I hope you are enjoying your time as a freshman at Florida State University. I have a lot of great memories from my time there. I would like to ask, though, where you are planning on going after your time there.

As I’m sure you aware, there are many dangers that exist in today’s digital society. Hackers are abundant worldwide, with the ability to steal your credit card information, email passwords and even your identity. The Internet itself is littered with filth in the form of pornography sites, gambling pages and many others. Notto mention the fact that digital technology in the form of video games, MP3 downloads, and etc has caused kids to stay inside more so than any other generation. I have collected a number of documents that exemplify the power of mass media and digital technology in today’s time. All use attractive colors and fonts to reel a person into its message. These documents, or digital designs, are present everywhere in our society and can be quite over-whelming.

I’m writing to you to tell you that there is a new place you can go after your time at FSU to live a healthy life away from the problems of digital society. The Journeying and Writing Society, or J.A.W.S, is a recently founded society on an island in the Pacific Ocean. We are truly one of a kind in many aspects, the first one being our independence from the hold that digital technology has over the rest of the world.

We have our own Internet server that connects to predetermined web sites and blocks any others I deem inappropriate. Oh, did I mention, I am the dictator of this society. While I am tough on laws, I am also very kind and considerate. Anyways, we have a firewall on our network that surpasses any other in the world. We have the highest digital literacy rate of any country on earth. Our schools use state of the art equipment to teach students how to properly use digital technology. We are not a society that fears or resists the power of digital technology; we simply control it.

In addition to our outstanding digital technology, we also have one of the safest and healthiest societies on earth. With only a population of 30,000, we have become the strongest military presence in the world because of our superior technology and dedication. The J.A.W.S Island boasts one of the lowest obesity ratings on earth, and in 2012 we will be sending athletes to the world Olympics.

It is my hope that based on what you have read here, you will highly consider coming to my island. I am sure that once you explore this beautiful place for yourself, you will see just how good of an idea it is to live here. Our population is growing every month (slowly, though) and we would love for you to be apart of our one, big family. Enjoy the rest of your time at FSU, and we hope to see you here!

Jordan Wagner, Head Dictator

Letter to an Employer

Dear Mr. Smith,

I am writing to you in hopes that you will consider establishing a branch of your Entertainment Warehouse in the J.A.W.S. community. Our community members could benefit greatly from the wide variety of music, movies, and electronics you carry in your store, as we do not allow the purchasing of many items via the internet, so our local venders must provide most if not all of the items they need and desire.

You have a spotless reputation not only for carrying the latest movies, music, and technology, but for getting them first and providing them at low prices, all things that we at J.A.W.S admire.

Our community is one that you could say is both technologically advanced as well as minimalist. We encourage our citizens to learn about and utilize various technologies, however we also recognize the numerous evils associated with technology and limit the places and times in which one can use various items. Thus, while we encourage and enforce moderation in the use of technology, we still want our citizens to have all the most current items at their disposal for the occasions that they are needed.

Furthermore, I believe that J.A.W.S. is a wonderful community for any of your current employees to transfer to. We take very good care of our citizens, with free gym memberships and use of trainers and dieticians.

It is also incredibly easy, and encouraged, for all members to continue their education on their free time. We have many classes to choose from, from art classes to computer classes, to more academic courses as well.

We also encourage our citizens to enjoy and explore the outdoors, in any of the many preservations and parks that we have in our community.

Ultimately, we encourage an environment in which human connection is the first priority, not technological distractions. Yes, technology provides us with countless conveniences, but these can lead us astray. We must put our friends, families, and community first, not convenience. I would certainly recommend J.A.W.S. as a wholesome, friendly community for your employees as well as their families.

Looking forward to hearing from you, the Entertainment Warehouse would be a wonderful addition to our community.

Katelyn Williamson

Entertainment Division, J.A.W.S.

Persuasive invitation to an EWM Major

Dear Mary,

As a young person seeking to break into the publishing world, you might find our utopian society, the Journeying and Writing Society (J.A.W.S.) particularly attractive. Here at J.A.W.S. we strive to attack the digital hardships that are so prevalent in modern society, and we have made significant attempts to deviate from the perverted images and invasive viruses that pollute the current digital society. Since you are studying to work within a digital society, editing, writing, and media might become much easier and safer for you when you plant yourself in our beautiful island society.

You need not worry about compromising your health because all of our fruits and vegetables are grown locally, and so you can focus all of your energy on enjoying the great outdoors and the organically grown food available on the island! Since you will not have to stress about the quality of the food you will be consuming, you can focus your attentions on searching for inspiration for future writing projects.

While there is no guarantee you will

Become a carrot, you just might

Feel as healthy as one!

In addition to a great, healthy eats, which should be very important to a young person like yourself, exercise is also incorporated into the daily routine. Two hours of outdoor activity is required of all citizens, so you can get in shape and clear your head at the same time, the perfect makings for strong minds, giving you the physical ability to conquer the academic challenges you might face as an EWM major.

Creativity is more than Welcomed at J.A.W.S.,

this is an interesting advertisement made by

a current EWM major:

Digital crime, as well as physical crime is also not an issue at J.A.W.S., while many college campuses have a high rates of rape and theft, there has never been a rape, murder, or suicide at J.A.W.S.. College aged people, especially women, might fear becoming victims, but there is no reason to fear at J.A.W.S.

Above is an ad for an anti-rape group on an American college campus, but

J.A.W.S. is entirely void of such crime occurrences, so there is no need to waste time combating those issues.

As a college student you definitely need time to unwind and let lose, and here at J.A.W.S. we know we wouldn’t be a true utopian society without social interactions. While we highly discourage drug and alcohol use, we entirely promote wholesome fun for all ages. Our entertainment department for the enjoyment of all of our citizens organizes weekly socials.

Here is a sample advertisement for a social event; although this is more family oriented, there are also single socials, an opportunity to meet other nice young people your same age!

J.A.W.S. also emphasizes environmental awareness, and does not use many paper products, as we realize that the earth’s resources are limited. The young generation, especially those college aged folks like you, seems to be particularly engaged in preserving the earth and going green, and we respect that entirely, and only use biodegradable products. Additionally, all of the learning, reading, and work takes place on computer monitors so paper is rarely used!

We realize the significance of trees

And the natural environment, so we

Use paper products sparingly!

Lastly, the beautiful and diverse landscapes of our island should find favor with your need to expand your horizons, and discover new inspirations for injecting beauty into the media. Although the outskirts of our islands are tropical beaches, the innards resemble the simple pastures of a Connecticut farm.

We hope that you will highly consider a serene and relaxing life at J.A.W.S., free of the digital complications so prevalent in the current collegiate world. Here you will have no worries about your computer crashing at an inopportune moment, maintaining your health, or experiencing natural beauty. We welcome your creativity as an EWM major, as well as your willingness to experience college life in a morally upstanding manner.

Sincerely,

Kathryn Palmer,

Head of History Division

J.A.W.S.

Today was an interesting day to say the least. It started out as any other day would; school was intriguing as always, especially because today we learned about digital access and when it's appropriate to use technology and when it is not appropriate. It wasn't until i got home from school when my parents told me and my brother they were going to take us somewhere for a "surprise". Before I knew it we were pulling into the parking lot of our society's newest attraction: the world's largest HD television! I wasn't even aware they had completed building it (because for the past 6 months it's been under heavy construction), but sure enough there it was in front of me! It really was a spectacle- towering at over 50 ft tall and 60 ft wide. We watched the newest Harry Potter movie's private showing, which I probably wouldn't have even enjoyed were it not for the tv's amazing visual effects. I seriously have the best parents in the world and am fortunate enough to live in the best society in the world! Long live J.A.W.S.!

At 13:46 time today, November 22nd, the nation of France launched a digital attack against our security system. Using a massive wave of viruses, they sought to break down our firewalls and corrupt our systems. However, there viruses were destroyed upon coming in contact with our defense. My head of military is on a flight now to Paris, where he will be meeting with the Prime Minister. We will be issuing a warning for an attempted attack on our society, in addition to 5 million dollars in United States currency.

My head of military has just informed me of his arrival. He is in a car on the way to the Prime Minister's Office. I have sent out a standby message to our Air Force to prepare a primary fleet, just in case.

Proclamation Statement

The Journeying and Writing Society (J.A.W.S.), home to nearly 30,000 residents, strives to conquer the hardships of the modern digital society, and establish a new, morally founded code of conduct. The contemporary digital society breaks trust with its users more and more each day due to its intrusive nature. Excessive cases of identity theft and credit card theft rank among the many issues plaguing the current digital society. The Internet was originally created as a positive entity to advance and speed up communication, but now its original intentions have been exploited to create a dishonest environment characterized by fear and unwholesome images. The prevalence of pornography and other suggestive and distasteful images have tainted our digital society, giving young people the impression that the lewd conduct portrayed in the internet and on television is acceptable in real life. We are simply disgusted with the evils found on the Internet and other media the ability for anyone to display their unfounded, and often hateful, political and religious views for the entire digital world to see. We believe that young children should be shielded from the hostile milieu that accompanies digital society. We believe in censorship is an extremely valuable tool in maintaining happiness and purity within this utopian society, and so all of the movies, television programs, and images on the internet have been pre- approved so innocent young children do not fall prey to those malicious individuals looking to corrupt young minds. We have also remedied the problem of fraud and hacking, which plagues the current digital society; we have invented an impermeable cyber wall for the protection of all computers from viruses, hackers, and other harmful cyber threats. The subject of safety emerges as one of the top priorities for the benevolent dictator of J.A.W.S. as the very real social problem of cyber bullying is absolutely not tolerated. Though instances of cyber bullying do not happen often, likely resulting in the absences of social networking sites within the community, the rare occasions are severely punished and the perpetrator’s digital privileges are revoked for an extended period of time.

We are also especially appalled at the connection between digital society and obesity, as well as the anti-social personalities of the young generation that has developed as a result of too much time spent alone in dimly lit rooms with a computer. We value physical exercise, outdoor activity, and artistic expression as necessary components to a healthy and happy life. We require all citizens to exercise or spend time in nature for at least 2 hours a day if not longer, so they do not get sucked into the evil whirlwind of virtual reality. We've ensured that every citizen lives within a mile from both a high tech gymnasium as well as wildlife preserve where they can hike and canoe, among other activities. Additionally, we believe that engagement in the arts is vital to a well-rounded member of our society and provide a variety of centers with tools for and lesson in painting, sculpting, video production, poetry, and other various art forms.

Our relatively small island nation is also proud to have the strongest military power on earth. Armed with an Air Force that due to an incredible amount of stealth, self-operated weaponry not only outnumbers the Chinese, but has technology that surpasses both the United States’ and Japan’s. With a population of 30,000, it would not be apparent that we would be such a strong force. However, because of the close unity of everyone on the island and the control implemented by the government, we are extremely efficient and effective.

From birth, our citizens are raised with impeccable standards of digital etiquette, and are forbidden to use cell phones, or other handheld electronic devices during social interactions and in most public areas. We have set up designated digital areas in public spaces where people can stop and check their messages if they really need to. We've done this in an attempt to promote human interaction instead of digital interaction. We want all of our citizens to feel included and jovial, and we realize that digital addiction has become a serious problem for members of the current digital society, so we have made a serious effort to eliminate those burdens. J.A.W.S. seeks to attack and conquer the digital hardships of traditional society through the use of censorship, enforced physical activity, and social interactions. Thus, the members of the J.A.W.S. community enjoy a life with the advantages and conveniences of technology, but without the psychological and physical burden which members of other societies encounter when over-saturated with technology.

Post #1- A New Device is in Town!

Today was definitely a day for the J.A.W.S. history books! Me and my brother were about to leave school on the “fast bus”, which is the transportation system for more advanced students. These special busses usually have computer monitors on the back of each seat for us to continue on with our work, but on this particular day the monitors had been torn out and the bus was seemingly under construction. When I got home I asked my father, who is the vice president of the transportation system, what they were planning on doing with the busses. Apparently they are going to replace the computer monitors with new state-of-the-art telepathic monitors, which are said to predict your search for you before you know what you are going to search. I know it sounds a bit far-fetched, but my dad assures that this will soon be the new method of browsing the web, so we all better get used to these new devices.

Overall it was a pretty good day. I went with a few friends to the island's biggest water park and rode the two most daring slides: Attack and Jaws of Fury. Jaws of Fury was especially scary because there are overhead projectors throughout the tunnel of the ride that show intense shark jaws coming at you. It makes me feel at home, however, because I know what the jaws represent in this society and it makes me feel proud.

What a tiring day! I spent this glorious Saturday out and about town, running errands and enjoying our beautiful community. I awoke early and went to the gym, where the advanced scale and body mass index measurer created a personalized two hour routine including cardio, agility training, and muscle toning. I felt so invigorated when I left the gym and headed over to the local music store. I needed to pick up some CDs for my younger sister’s birthday party because she said she wanted some of the latest music by her favorite boy band for people to dance to. In fact, she said she really only wanted one of their songs, but since purchasing any media online is disabled in the J.A.W.S. network, I had to run to the store beforehand. I didn’t mind however because I got to enjoy the lovely weather on the walk over.

On the way to the store, I received a call from my mother and rushed over to one of the designated call zones to answer before being reprimanded for rudely speaking on the phone in public. She asked if I could pick up a few items at the grocery store as well while I was out, which I did happily.

The party was a wonderful time, with such bright decorations, delicious home-made food, music emanating from the boom box, and dancing. My sister received several wonderful gifts, like a new music player and digital book reader. Everyone had a wonderful time, although at one point a friend of my sister’s retreated from the party to return her boyfriend’s call, which I, as well as everyone else, found to be extremely rude. However, there was no other snag in the rest of the evening, and a good time was had by all. J

My family and I moved to J.A.W.S. last week and it has been a bit of an adjustment. Here we are not allowed to use our cell phones in certain places, like in stores or even walking down the street. The other day I was walking to the grocery store and got a text from my best friend back in the States and received some very nasty looks from my fellow pedestrians when I responded. I suppose I understand though, since as I was texting I became somewhat careless and nearly crossed the street while the light was green! Plus, it is rude. I should be meeting new people, not texting!

I’m excited to start school, as I’ve been told that students at the J.A.W.S. high school take more classes surrounding technology than back home. I’d very much like to learn more about different programs, like Photoshop, InDesign, and computers and other various technologies in general. Unfortunately, back home education regarding technology is not as in depth or even available. The curriculum includes only the basics.

I explored a bit the other day and found that J.A.W.S. has many parks and preserves where you can go hiking or canoeing. That will certainly be a welcome change from the concrete jungle we lived in before moving here. Also there is a huge gym with every exercise and work out resource you can think of! Working out more will definitely be a good change for our family. Overall I think we will be very happy here.

LIst of Policies and Rules

Rule #1.Digital Commerce-Members of the J.A.W.S. community are allowed to purchase only things online which are not available in the local stores. We encourage our members to get out of the house and browse shelves and racks as opposed to web pages for the things they need. This includes clothing, foods, music, movies, and other various supplies.

Rule #2. Digital Communication- We allow the use of communication devices such as telephones, computers, and cellular telephones, but they may only be used in private and designated public areas. We also have email and instant messaging, but no networking sites. We prefer that our citizens do not sit in front of computers for too long a period of time or text while walking or driving about the community as his is both rude and dangerous.

Rule #3: Digital Access: Electronic equipment can be accessed for no longer than three hours at a time, with no exceptions. Perhaps the strictest rule in the society; all citizens must agree to forego electronic use after three consecutive hours has elapsed in order to ensure equal access among citizens and encourage citizens to maintain a more active lifestyle.

Rule #4: Digital Literacy: All citizens must take digital a literacy workshop, and pass the exam, before being issued their laptop. This rule is very important, so that our citizens know how just what they are doing when it comes to technology and the web. We want the people of J.A.W.S. to be well informed of their digital surroundings and get the most out of the technology they have been provided with.

Rule#5: Digital Etiquette: All citizens must also take a course on digital etiquette, and pass the exam, before being issued a laptop. If rules of etiquette are violated, laptop and entertainment privileges will be temporarily revoked. J.A.W.S. takes etiquette and manners very seriously and we do not want to see anyone's feelings hurt, so good manners on the internet and other digital devices are very important. Cyber bullying is absolutely not tolerated here, and we strive to ingrain the idea, "if you wouldn't say it someone's face, then you shouldn't say it online", in everyone's mind.

Rule #6 Digital Law: There are no exceptions in regards to viewing restricted websites. Anyone caught viewing a restricted website will be punished to the fullest extent of the law.

Rule #7. Digital Rights and Responsibilities-We expect our citizens to use their technology responsibly, in other words, not to depend too much on it and not to put it before fellow citizens. All members of our society have access to technology but are only allowed to use it for a certain amount of time and in designated areas, so that it does not begin to rule their lives.

Rule #8: All children and adult citizens must complete some form of both physical and mental activity for two hours each day. In order to prevent sedentary lifestyles and full dependence on technology, each society member must exercise daily as well as challenge their mind (through reading and puzzles) for one hours, a total of two hours.

Rule #9: Digital Security: Members of council will do periodic checks of the internet feed to make sure no hackers or viruses have breached our security system.

Blog Entry #2: Tracking Device Day!

Attention all happy and content residents of J.A.W.S. utopian society: today, we are issuing a tracking device to every resident. At first, you might think this idea to be very intrusive, and while it is, it is all for the purpose of your own good. The tracking device allows the dictator to keep track of each and every citizen's whereabouts. The reasoning behind this is for Dictator J.Wagner to be able to service everyone's needs and improve any situations that are lacking within the society. Humans do not always admit what ails them, and so through the use of the tracking device, which is implanted in every person's arm, our central intelligence can determine which activities, such as leisure, are done most, and which activities, perhaps education, are exercised more sparingly. The tracking device alerts us whenever a person goes anywhere at anytime, so if someone gets lost we can find them, and this will be especially helpful if any youngsters run of and their loving parents can't locate them. Not only does the device track location, it also alerts us of which activities people are doing, and if they are doing something not on the schedule, then this can be corrected. For school aged children and young adults, if they are not doing their daily educational lesson at the right time, our intelligence system will be alerted and this can be corrected. This works the same with work for adults. The use of the tracking device and subsequent control of all activities allows for greater efficiency within the community. Entertainment ad leisure can also be tracked on this device; if a person exceeds the limit of indoor activity such as video games or t.v. watching, those technologies are automatically turned off and the person must go outside to enjoy physical activity, which helps their health. The tracking device is not meant to make you feel like a prisoner, but instead it is meant to help better serve the community and keep everyone on track for life free of the dangers of digital technology!

Blog Entry #1: Everyone Gets a Laptop Day!

J.A.W.S. firmly believes that uniformity and censorship of the nasty images floating around on the internet prove as the makings of a better life for our citizens. That being said, the leader of J.A.W.S. will be issuing new laptops to everyone. However, these are not your grandmother's laptops, easily harmed by evil viruses and malware. Contrarily, these laptops have been manufactured right here on the islands and assist its exclusive users (our lovely citizens of J.A.W.S.) in developing better digital literacy skills, as our program today begins with an hour long "digital literacy" workshop which focuses on how to utilize the full potential of this new computer's digital capabilities. Following the tutorial on digital, there is a follow up segment on digital etiquette: we don't like to see people getting flustered or frustrated here, so we believe it is vital to learn appropriate manners while using the computers. The issue of these new, protected laptops, will help family units connect better because even if the family is physically disconnected (i.e. if Dad went across the island for work) they can still be digitally connected through the handy video phone that comes standard on all computers. Since the use of the laptops is controlled, if the user is supposed to be doing work related, the computer will automatically close any programs open not pertaining to work. This way, our people are much more efficient managers of their time, not distracted by silly websites. Additionally, these new laptops come programmed with an educational agenda, and all school aged children learn the same lesson through the virtual learning program installed on the laptops. This eliminates the need to build schools, and every child can learn new things in their own homes. When the work and learning for the day is done, the fun begins! The laptops issued today come with everything a person needs to entertain themselves; pre-approved movies are already installed (these movies are appropriate for all ages) as well as extensive instructions for several exciting outdoor games. We hope the inhabitants of this blessed island will fully appreciate the value of these fully loaded laptops. Now, everyone can connect and no one will feel competitive or left out because the laptops are all the same!
